Origin of the Sri Rama Mantra

As stated by Swami Sivananda Saraswati

Once upon a time, Sri Rama was seated in his council hall at Ayodhya after his return from Lanka. At the time, Deva Rishi Narada, Vishwamitra, Vashishtha and many others were present to give some important counsel to the king.

While discussing religious topics, Sage Narada said, "I request all of you present here to give your considered opinion in the matter as to whether the Lord's Name (Nama) or the Lord Himself (Nami) is superior." A heated discussion ensued. The assembly was not able to come to a definite conclusion. In the end Narada gave his verdict, "Certainly Nama is superior to Nami. I shall prove it now with a concrete example before the assembly disperses."

Narada then called Hanuman to his side and said, "O mighty hero, when you salute all the rishis and Sri Rama, do not salute Vishwamitra. He is only a Raja Rishi. He does not deserve equal treatment and respect." Hanuman agreed. When the time of salutation came Hanuman prostrated before all the sages except Sage Vishwamitra.

Then Narada said to Vishwamitra, "O great rishi! Look at the impertinence of Hanuman. He has made salutations to everyone in this assembly except you. You must punish him for this. Mark how proud and arrogant he is."

Vishwamitra, aflame with rage, said to Sri Rama, "O king, I have been seriously insulted by your servant Hanuman in the presence of these great rishis. Therefore, he deserves death at your hands before sunset tomorrow." Sri Rama had to obey Vishwamitra as he was his guru. At the same time Sri Rama was in a fix because he had to kill his faithful servant with his own hand. But he could not help it.

Hanuman too was very agitated. He went to Narada and said, "O divine sage, save me. Lord Rama will kill me tomorrow. I acted according to your advice. What shall I do now?" Narada said, "O Hanuman, never despair. Do as I tell you. Get up early in the morning at Brahmamuhurta. Bath in the Sarayu river. Stand on the sandy bed of the river and with folded hands repeat the mantra Om Sri Rama Jaya Rama Jaya Jaya Rama. I assure you, nothing will affect you."

The next day dawned. Hanuman went to the Sarayu before sunrise, bathed and with folded hands repeated the Lord's name as instructed by Rishi Narada. In the morning crowds of citizens came to witness the ordeal through which Hanuman had to pass. Sri Rama stood at a considerable distance from Hanuman, looked at his servant with pity and most unwillingly began to shower arrows on him. Not one could hurt Hanuman. All day arrows were rained on him but with no effect. Sri Rama even used the terrible missiles with which he had killed Kumbhakarna and other great rakshasas in the battlefield. At last Sri Rama took his Brahmastra, the unfailing missile. Hanuman repeated the mantra loudly with intense bhava and self-surrender to the Lord. He stood smiling at Sri Rama. Everyone was struck with wonder and exclaimed 'Jaya Jaya' to Hanuman.

At this juncture Narada went to Vishwamitra and said, "O sage! Control your anger. Sri Rama is tired now. The various arrows could not do anything to Hanuman. What does it matter even if Hanuman did not salute you? Save Rama from this struggle. You have now understood the glory of Sri Rama's name." Vishwamitra was moved by these words and stopped Rama from killing Hanuman with the Brahmastra. Hanuman came and fell at the feet of his master and saluted Vishwamitra for his kindness. Vishwamitra was very pleased and blessed Hanuman, praising his devotion to Sri Rama.

Sri Narada first gave this mantra to Hanuman when the latter was in great danger. So, O beloved aspirants, you also who are burnt by the flames of samsara may repeat this mantra and obtain emancipation.

श्रीरामरक्षास्तोत्रम्‌ Prayoga of Ram Raksha Kavach Part 3

॥ श्रीरामरक्षास्तोत्रम्‌ ॥ || Shri Ram Raksha Stotram ||

श्रीगणेशायनम:।  Shri Ganeshaaya Namaha |

अस्य श्रीरामरक्षास्तोत्रमन्त्रस्य।  Asya Shri Rama Raksha stotra mantrasya |

बुधकौशिक ऋषि:।  Budha Koushika Rushi-hi |

श्रीसीतारामचंद्रोदेवता।  Shri Seeta Ramachandro devataa |

अनुष्टुप्‌ छन्द:। सीता शक्ति:।  Anushtup Chanda-ha | Seeta shaktihi |

श्रीमद्‌हनुमान्‌ कीलकम्‌।  Srimad Hanumaan Keelakam|

श्रीसीतारामचंद्रप्रीत्यर्थे जपे विनियोग:॥ Shri Seeta Ramachando preetyarte jape viniyogaha ||

इस राम रक्षा स्तोत्र मंत्र के बुध कौशिक ऋषि हैं, सीता और रामचंद्र देवता हैं, अनुष्टुप छंद हैं, सीता शक्ति हैं, हनुमान जी कीलक है तथा श्री रामचंद्र जी की प्रसन्नता के लिए राम रक्षा स्तोत्र के जप में विनियोग किया जाता हैं.

For the “Rama protection prayer”,

The sage is Budha Kousika, God is Ramachandra with Sita,

Meter is Anushtup, power is Sita, and Limit is Hanuman,

And I am starting the chant of this prayer to please Ramachandra.

॥ अथ ध्यानम्‌ ॥|| Atha Dhyanam ||

ध्यायेदाजानुबाहुं धृतशरधनुषं बद्दद्पद्‌मासनस्थं । Dhyaye daajaanu baahum dhruta shara danusham badra padma sanastham |

पीतं वासोवसानं नवकमलदलस्पर्धिनेत्रं प्रसन्नम्‌ ॥ Peetham vaaso vasaanam navakamala dala spardhi netram prasannam ||

वामाङ्‌कारूढसीता मुखकमलमिलल्लोचनं नीरदाभं । Vaaman-karuDa Sita muka kamala mila lochanam neera daabam |

नानालङ्‌कारदीप्तं दधतमुरुजटामण्डनं रामचंद्रम्‌ ॥ Naanaa lankaara deeptham dadha tamuru jataa mandanam Ramachandram ||

जो धनुष-बाण धारण किए हुए हैं,बद्द पद्दासन की तरह विराजमान हैं और पीतांबर पहने हुए हैं, जिनके आलोकित नेत्र नए कमल दल के समान स्पर्धा करते हैं, जो बाएँ ओर स्थित सीताजी के मुख कमल से मिले हुए हैं- उन आजानु बाहु, मेघश्याम,विभिन्न अलंकारों से विभूषित तथा जटाधारी श्रीराम का ध्यान करें.

I meditate on that Ramachandra, whose arms reach up to his thighs,

Who carries bow and arrows, who sits in a lotus pose,

Who is dressed in yellow cloths, who has eyes like the petals of newly opened lotus flower,

Who is always pleasant looking, who is the colour of the black cloud,

Whose sight is fixed on the lotus eyes of Sita, sitting on his left thigh, 

And who shines in various decorations and who has a matted hair around his face.

॥ इति ध्यानम्‌ ॥ || Iththi Dhyanam||

चरितं रघुनाथस्य शतकोटिप्रविस्तरम्‌। Charitham Raghunaathasya shatha koti pravistaram |

एकैकमक्षरं पुंसां महापातकनाशनम्‌॥१॥ Ekaika maksharam pumsaam maha paataka naashanam ||1||

श्री रघुनाथजी का चरित्र सौ करोड़ विस्तार वाला हैं. उसका एक-एक अक्षर महापातकों को नष्ट करने वाला है.

The story of Rama is written in a billions words,

But reading even one letter of that, destroys all great sins.

ध्यात्वा नीलोत्पलश्यामं रामं राजीवलोचनम्‌। Dhyatva neelotpala Shyamam Ramam raajiva lochanam |

जानकीलक्ष्मणॊपेतं जटामुकुटमण्डितम्‌॥२॥ Jaanaki Lakshmano pethaam jata mukuta manditham ||2||

सासितूणधनुर्बाणपाणिं नक्तं चरान्तकम्‌। SaasitUna dhanurbaana paanim naktham charaantakam |

स्वलीलया जगत्त्रातुमाविर्भूतमजं विभुम्‌॥३॥ Svaleelaya jagatraatu maavirbhUta majam vibhum ||3||

रामरक्षां पठॆत्प्राज्ञ: पापघ्नीं सर्वकामदाम्‌। Ramaraksham patetpradnya-ha paapagneem sarvakaamadham |

शिरो मे राघव: पातु भालं दशरथात्मज:॥४॥ Shiro me Raghava-h paatu bhaalam dasharathaatmajaha ||4||

नीले कमल के श्याम वर्ण वाले, कमलनेत्र, जटाओं के मुकुट से सुशोभित जानकी तथा लक्ष्मण सहित ऐसे भगवान् श्री राम का स्मरण करके. जो अजन्मा एवं सर्वव्यापक, हाथों में खड्ग, तुणीर, धनुष-बाण धारण किए राक्षसों के संहार तथा अपनी लीलाओं से जगत रक्षा हेतु अवतीर्ण श्रीराम का स्मरण करके. मैं सर्वकामप्रद और पापों को नष्ट करने वाले राम रक्षा स्तोत्र का पाठ करता हूँ. राघव मेरे सिर की और दशरथ के पुत्र मेरे ललाट की रक्षा करें.

Meditating on Rama who is black like the blue lotus flower,

Who has lotus like eyes, who is our Lord

Who is accompanied by Sita and Lakshmana,

Whose head is surrounded by the tufted hair,

Who carries sword, bows, arrows and quiver,

Who is born in the world to playfully kill rakshasas,

And save and protect this world, who does not have birth,

The intelligent one should chant,“Rama protection prayer”,

So that he realizes all his desires.

Let Raghava protect my head, 

Let my forehead be protected by son of Dasaratha,

Let my eyes be protected by son of Kousalya,

And let my ears be protected by, he who is dear to Viswamithra.

कौसल्येयो दृशौ पातु विश्वामित्रप्रिय: श्रुती। Kausalyeyo drushau paathu Vishwamitra priya-h shrutee |

घ्राणं पातु मखत्राता मुखं सौमित्रिवत्सल:॥५॥ Ghraanam paathu makhatraathaa mukham Saumitri vatsala-ha ||5|| 

जिव्हां विद्दानिधि: पातु कण्ठं भरतवंदित:। Jivhaam vidya nidhi-h paathu kanTam Bharata vandita-ha |

स्कन्धौ दिव्यायुध: पातु भुजौ भग्नेशकार्मुक:॥६॥ Skandhau divya yudha-h paathu bhujhau bhagnesha kaarmukah ||6||

करौ सीतपति: पातु हृदयं जामदग्न्यजित्‌। Karau Sitapati-h paatu hrudayam Jaamadagnyajit |

मध्यं पातु खरध्वंसी नाभिं जाम्बवदाश्रय:॥७॥ Madhyam paathu khara dhwamsee naabhim Jaambhavadaashrayaha ||7||

सुग्रीवेश: कटी पातु सक्थिनी हनुमत्प्रभु:। Sugreevasha katee paathu sakthinee Hanumath-prabhuh |

ऊरू रघुत्तम: पातु रक्ष:कुलविनाशकृत्‌॥८॥ Uruu Raghuththama-h paathu raksha-h kula vinaasha-kruth ||8||

मेरे कमर की सुग्रीव के स्वामी, हडियों की हनुमान के प्रभु और रानों की राक्षस कुल का विनाश करने वाले रघुश्रेष्ठ रक्षा करें.

जानुनी सेतुकृत्पातु जङ्‌घे दशमुखान्तक:। Jaanunee sethukruth-paathu jadgne dasha-mukhaanthaka-ha |

पादौ बिभीषणश्रीद: पातु रामोSखिलं वपु:॥९॥ Paadhau BibheeshaNa-shreeda-h paathu Raamo-n-khilam vapu-h ||9||

कौशल्या नंदन मेरे नेत्रों की, विश्वामित्र के प्रिय मेरे कानों की, यज्ञरक्षक मेरे घ्राण की और सुमित्रा के वत्सल मेरे मुख की रक्षा करें.

मेरी जिह्वा की विधानिधि रक्षा करें, कंठ की भरत-वंदित, कंधों की दिव्यायुध और भुजाओं की महादेवजी का धनुष तोड़ने वाले भगवान् श्रीराम रक्षा करें. मेरे हाथों की सीता पति श्रीराम रक्षा करें, हृदय की परशुराम को जीतने वाले, मध्य भाग की खर के वधकर्ता और नाभि की जांबवान के आश्रयदाता रक्षा करें.

मेरे जानुओं की सेतुकृत, जंघाओं की दशानन वधकर्ता, चरणों की विभीषण को ऐश्वर्य प्रदान करने वाले और सम्पूर्ण शरीर की श्रीराम रक्षा करें.

Let my nose be protected by protector of sacrifices,

My face by him, he who is dear to Lakshmana,

My toungue be protected by the treasure of wisdom,

My neck be protected by him who is saluted by Bharatha.

Let my shoulders be protected by him who has celestial weapons,

Let my arms by him who broke the bow,

Let my hands be protected by the husband of Sita,

Let my heart be protected by him who won over Parasurama.

Let my middle be protected by him who killed Khara,

Let my stomach be protected by the Lord of Jhambhavan,

Let my hips be protected by Lord of Sugreeva,

Let my behinds be protected by Lord of Hanuman.

Let my thighs be protected by the best of the Raghu clan,

Who is the destroyer of the clan of Rakshasas,

Let my knees be protected by maker of the bridge,

Let my calves be protected by the killer of Ravana,

Let my feet be protected by him who give protection to Vibheeshana,

And let all my body be protected by Sri Rama.

एतां रामबलोपेतां रक्षां य: सुकृती पठॆत्‌। Yethaam Rama-balO-pethaam rakshaam ya-h sukruthee paTet |

स चिरायु: सुखी पुत्री विजयी विनयी भवेत्‌॥१०॥  Sa chiraayu-h sukhee putree vijayi vinayi bhavet ||10||

पातालभूतलव्योम चारिणश्छद्‌मचारिण:। Paataala bhutalavyoma chaariNashchadh-ma chaarina-ha |

न द्र्ष्टुमपि शक्तास्ते रक्षितं रामनामभि:॥११॥ Na drushtumapi shaktaaste rakshitam Rama naamabhi-hi ||11||

शुभ कार्य करने वाला जो भक्त भक्ति एवं श्रद्धा के साथ रामबल से संयुक्त होकर इस स्तोत्र का पाठ करता हैं, वह दीर्घायु, सुखी, पुत्रवान, विजयी और विनयशील हो जाता हैं.जो जीव पाताल, पृथ्वी और आकाश में विचरते रहते हैं अथवा छद्दम वेश में घूमते रहते हैं, वे राम नामों से सुरक्षित मनुष्य को देख भी नहीं पाते.

The do gooder who reads the protective chant based on strength of Rama,

Would live long, be blessed with sons, be victorious and will have humility.

They who travel in the hades, earth and heaven and who travel secretly,

Would not be able to see the one who reads the protective chant of Rama.

रामेति रामभद्रेति रामचंद्रेति वा स्मरन्‌। Rameti Ramabhadrethi Ramachandrethi vaa smarana |

नरो न लिप्यते पापै भुक्तिं मुक्तिं च विन्दति॥१२॥ Naro na lipyate paapai bhukthim mukthim cha vindathi ||12||

राम, रामभद्र तथा रामचंद्र आदि नामों का स्मरण करने वाला रामभक्त पापों से लिप्त नहीं होता. इतना ही नहीं, वह अवश्य ही भोग और मोक्ष दोनों को प्राप्त करता है.

On the man who remembers Rama, Rambhadra and Ramachandra,

Sins will never get attached and he would get good life and salvation.

जगज्जेत्रैकमन्त्रेण रामनाम्नाभिरक्षितम्‌। Jagajjetraika-mantreNa Ramanam-naabhi-rakshitam |

य: कण्ठे धारयेत्तस्य करस्था: सर्वसिद्द्दय:॥१३॥ Ya-h kaNTe dhaarayethtasya karasthhA-h sarvasidhdhaya-h ||13||

जो संसार पर विजय करने वाले मंत्र राम-नाम से सुरक्षित इस स्तोत्र को कंठस्थ कर लेता हैं, उसे सम्पूर्ण सिद्धियाँ प्राप्त हो जाती हैं.

He who wears the chant of the name of Rama as 

A protection round his neck, would get all the occult powers in his hand.

वज्रपंजरनामेदं यो रामकवचं स्मरेत्‌। Vajra-panjaranaamedam yo Raamakavacham smaret |

अव्याहताज्ञ: सर्वत्र लभते जयमंगलम्‌॥१४॥ Avyaahataagnya-h sarvatra labhate jayamangalam ||14||

जो मनुष्य वज्रपंजर नामक इस राम कवच का स्मरण करता हैं, उसकी आज्ञा का कहीं भी उल्लंघन नहीं होता तथा उसे सदैव विजय और मंगल की ही प्राप्ति होती हैं.

The orders of him who reads this armour of Rama called the cage of diamond,

Would be obeyed by everywhere and he will get victory in all things.

आदिष्टवान्‌ यथा स्वप्ने रामरक्षामिमां हर:। Adishtavaan yathaa swapne Ramarakshaamimaam hara-h |

तथा लिखितवान्‌ प्रात: प्रबुद्धो बुधकौशिक:॥१५॥ Tatha likhitavaana praata-h prabhudhdho budhakaushika-h ||15||

भगवान् शंकर ने स्वप्न में इस रामरक्षा स्तोत्र का आदेश बुध कौशिक ऋषि को दिया था, उन्होंने प्रातः काल जागने पर उसे वैसा ही लिख दिया.

This protective chant of Rama was told by Lord Shiva in the dream,

And was written down by Budha Koushika without leaving a letter next day morn.

आराम: कल्पवृक्षाणां विराम: सकलापदाम्‌। Aaraama-h kalpavrukshaaNaam viraama-h sakalapadaam |

अभिरामस्त्रिलोकानां राम: श्रीमान्‌ स न: प्रभु:॥१६॥ Abhiraamstrilokaanaam Rama-h shreemaan sa na-h prabhu-h ||16|| 

जो कल्प वृक्षों के बगीचे के समान विश्राम देने वाले हैं, जो समस्त विपत्तियों को दूर करने वाले हैं और जो तीनो लोकों में सुन्दर हैं, वही श्रीमान राम हमारे प्रभु हैं.

There is no Lord like Rama who is like a wish giving tree,

Who lives in all places and who is the prettiest in all worlds.

तरुणौ रूपसंपन्नौ सुकुमारौ महाबलौ। Tarunnau roopasampannau sukumaarau mahabalau |

पुण्डरीकविशालाक्षौ चीरकृष्णाजिनाम्बरौ॥१७॥ Pundareeka-vishaalakshau cheera krushNaa jinaambarau ||17|| 

फलमूलशिनौ दान्तौ तापसौ ब्रह्मचारिणौ। Phalamoolashinau daantau taapasau brahmachaariNau |

पुत्रौ दशरथस्यैतौ भ्रातरौ रामलक्ष्मणौ॥१८॥ Putrau dasharathasyaythau bhratarau RamalakshmaNau ||18||

शरण्यौ सर्वसत्वानां श्रेष्ठौ सर्वधनुष्मताम्‌। Sharanyau sarvasatvaanaam shreshTau sarvadhanushmatham |

रक्ष:कुलनिहन्तारौ त्रायेतां नो रघुत्तमौ॥१९॥ Raksha-h-kulanihantaarau traayetaam no raghuththamau ||19||

जो युवा, सुन्दर, सुकुमार,महाबली और कमल के समान विशाल नेत्रों वाले हैं, मुनियों की तरह वस्त्र एवं काले मृग का चर्म धारण करते हैं.

जो फल और कंद का आहार ग्रहण करते हैं, जो संयमी, तपस्वी एवं ब्रह्रमचारी हैं, वे दशरथ के पुत्र राम और लक्ष्मण दोनों भाई हमारी रक्षा करें. ऐसे महाबली – रघुश्रेष्ठ मर्यादा पुरूषोतम समस्त प्राणियों के शरणदाता, सभी धनुर्धारियों में श्रेष्ठ और राक्षसों के कुलों का समूल नाश करने में समर्थ हमारा त्राण करें.

Let us be protected by the brothers Rama and Lakshmana,

Who are young, full of beauty, who are very strong,

Who have broad eyes like lotus, who wear the hides of trees,

Who eat fruits and roots, who are self controlled, who are ascetic,

Who are celibate, who are sons of Dasaratha,

Who give protection to all beings, who are great,

Who are the best among those who wield the bow,

And who destroy whole clans of Rakshasas.

आत्तसज्जधनुषा विषुस्पृशा वक्षया शुगनिषङ्‌ग सङि‌गनौ। Aaththasajhjha-dhanushaa vishusprushaa shuganishandga sandginau |

रक्षणाय मम रामलक्ष्मणा वग्रत: पथि सदैव गच्छताम्‌॥२०॥ RakshaNaaya mama RaamalakshmaNaa vagratha-h pathi sadaiva gachchathaam ||20||

संघान किए धनुष धारण किए, बाण का स्पर्श कर रहे, अक्षय बाणों से युक्त तुणीर लिए हुए राम और लक्ष्मण मेरी रक्षा करने के लिए मेरे आगे चलें.

Let those Rama and Lakshmana,

Who hold arrows ready to shoot,

Who have the inexhaustible quiver on their shoulders,

Walk in front of me protecting me.

संनद्ध: कवची खड्‌गी चापबाणधरो युवा। Sannaddha-h kavachee khaDgee chaapabaaNadharo yuvaa |

गच्छन्‌मनोरथोSस्माकं राम: पातु सलक्ष्मण:॥२१॥ gachchana-manoratho-smaakam Raama-h paathu sa-lakshmana-h ||21||

हमेशा तत्पर, कवचधारी, हाथ में खडग, धनुष-बाण तथा युवावस्था वाले भगवान् राम लक्ष्मण सहित आगे-आगे चलकर हमारी रक्षा करें.

Let Rama and Lakshmana, who are ready for war,

Wearing armour holding sword and having bows and arrows,

Travel in the chariot of my mind and protect me.

रामो दाशरथि: शूरो लक्ष्मणानुचरो बली। Raamo Daasharathi-h shooro LakshmaNaa-nucharo balee |

काकुत्स्थ: पुरुष: पूर्ण: कौसल्येयो रघुत्तम:॥२२॥ Kaakutstha-h purusha-h poorna-h Kausalyeyo raghuththamma-h ||22||

वेदान्तवेद्यो यज्ञेश: पुराणपुरुषोत्तम:। Vedantavedhyo yagnesha-h puraaNapurushoththama-h |

जानकीवल्लभ: श्रीमानप्रमेय पराक्रम:॥२३॥ Janakeevallabha-h Shrimaan-naprameya parakrama-h ||23||

इत्येतानि जपेन्नित्यं मद्‌भक्त: श्रद्धयान्वित:। Ityetaani japennityam madbhakta-ha shraddhayaanvita-h |

अश्वमेधायुतं पुण्यं संप्राप्नोति न संशय:॥२४॥ Ashwamedhaayutam punyam sampraaprOti na samshaya-ha ||24||

भगवान् का कथन है की श्रीराम, दाशरथी, शूर, लक्ष्मनाचुर, बली, काकुत्स्थ, पुरुष, पूर्ण, कौसल्येय, रघुतम, वेदान्त्वेघ, यज्ञेश,पुराण पुरूषोतम, जानकी वल्लभ, श्रीमान और अप्रमेय पराक्रम आदि नामों का नित्यप्रति श्रद्धापूर्वक जप करने वाले को निश्चित रूप से अश्वमेध यज्ञ से भी अधिक फल प्राप्त होता हैं.

That devotee who daily chants with devotion the names, 

Rama, son of Dasaratha, heroic one, he who is accompanied by Lakshmana,

He who is from Kakustha clan, complete man, son of Kausalya, Best among Raghu clan,

He who can be known by Vedantha, Lord of Yagnas, He who is ancient,

The best among men, Consort of Sita, Gentleman without properties and valorous one

Without doubt would get more blessings than performing of the Aswamedha sacrifice

रामं दूर्वादलश्यामं पद्‌माक्षं पीतवाससम्‌। Raamam duurvaadalashyamam padmaaksham peetavaasasam |

स्तुवन्ति नामभिर्दिव्यैर्न ते संसारिणो नर:॥२५॥ Stuvanti naamabhirdhirvyairna te samsaarinO nara-h ||25||

दूर्वादल के समान श्याम वर्ण, कमल-नयन एवं पीतांबरधारी श्रीराम की उपरोक्त दिव्य नामों से स्तुति करने वाला संसारचक्र में नहीं पड़ता.

He who chants the divine names of Rama

Who is as black as the bud of Dhoorva grass,

Who has lotus like eyes, who wears yellow silk,

Would never again lead another domestic life.

रामं लक्शमण पूर्वजं रघुवरं सीतापतिं सुंदरम्‌। Raamam LakshmaNa puurvajam Raghuvaram Seetapatim sundaram |

काकुत्स्थं करुणार्णवं गुणनिधिं विप्रप्रियं धार्मिकम्‌ KaakutasTham karuNaarNavam guNanidhim viprapriyam dhaarmikam 

राजेन्द्रं सत्यसंधं दशरथनयं श्यामलं शान्तमूर्तिम्‌। Raajendram satyasamdham Dasharathanayam shyamalam shaantamuurthim |

वन्दे लोकभिरामं रघुकुलतिलकं राघवं रावणारिम्‌॥२६॥ Vande lokabhiraamam Raghukulatilakam Raaghavam RaavaNaarim ||26|| 

लक्ष्मण जी के पूर्वज, सीताजी के पति, काकुत्स्थ, कुल-नंदन, करुणा के सागर, गुण-निधान, विप्र भक्त, परम धार्मिक, राजराजेश्वर, सत्यनिष्ठ, दशरथ के पुत्र, श्याम और शांत मूर्ति, सम्पूर्ण लोकों में सुन्दर, रघुकुल तिलक , राघव एवं रावण के शत्रु भगवान् राम की मैं वंदना करता हूँ.

Salutations to him who is attractive to all the world,

Who is the best among the Raghu clan, who killed Ravana,

Who is Rama, Who is elder brother of Lakshmana,

Who is a blessing to Raghu clan, Who is consort of Sita,

Who is pretty, Who belongs to clan of Kakusthas,

Who is the treasure of mercy, Who is wealthy of good characters,

Who likes Vedic scholars, who is just, Who is the best among kings,

Who is truthful, who is son of Dasaratha, Who is black and 

Who is the personification of peace and patience.

रामाय रामभद्राय रामचंद्राय वेधसे। Raamaya Raamabhadraaya Raamachandraaya vedhase |

रघुनाथाय नाथाय सीताया: पतये नम:॥२७॥ Raghunaathaaya naathaaya Seethaayaa-h pathaye namah ||27|| 

राम, रामभद्र, रामचंद्र, विधात स्वरूप, रघुनाथ, प्रभु एवं सीताजी के स्वामी की मैं वंदना करता हूँ.

My salutations to the consort of Lady Sita,

Who is the basis of all Vedas as Rama,

Ramabhadra and Ramachandra and,

Who is lord of the world as the lord of Raghu clan.

श्रीराम राम रघुनन्दन राम राम। Shreeraam Raam Raghunandana Raam Raam |

श्रीराम राम भरताग्रज राम राम। Shreeraam Raam Bharathaagraja Raam Raam |

श्रीराम राम रणकर्कश राम राम। Shreeraam Raam RaNakarkasha Raam Raam |

श्रीराम राम शरणं भव राम राम॥२८॥ Shreeraam Raam SharaNaM bhava Raam Raam ||28|| 

हे रघुनन्दन श्रीराम! हे भरत के अग्रज भगवान् राम! हे रणधीर, मर्यादा पुरुषोत्तम श्रीराम! आप मुझे शरण दीजिए.

Oh Rama, become my protection Oh Rama,

Rama, Rama, son of Raghu, Rama, Rama,

Rama Rama elder brother of Bharatha, Rama Rama,

Rama, Rama expert in war, Rama, Rama.

श्रीरामचन्द्रचरणौ मनसा स्मरामि। ShreeraamachandracharaNau manasaa smaraami |

श्रीरामचन्द्रचरणौ वचसा गृणामि। ShreeraamachandracharaNau vachasaa gruNaami |

श्रीरामचन्द्रचरणौ शिरसा नमामि। ShreeraamachandracharaNau shirasaa namaami |

श्रीरामचन्द्रचरणौ शरणं प्रपद्ये॥२९॥ ShreeraamachandracharaNau sharaNam pradhye ||29||

मैं एकाग्र मन से श्रीरामचंद्रजी के चरणों का स्मरण और वाणी से गुणगान करता हूँ, वाणी द्धारा और पूरी श्रद्धा के साथ भगवान् रामचन्द्र के चरणों को प्रणाम करता हुआ मैं उनके चरणों की शरण लेता हूँ.

I meditate on the feet of Sri Ramachandra,

I tell with words about feet of Ramachandra,

I salute with my head the feet of Ramachandra,

And I seek for protection to the feet of Ramachandra.

माता रामो मत्पिता रामचंन्द्र:। Maataa Raamo matpithaa Ramachandra-ha |

स्वामी रामो मत्सखा रामचंद्र:। Swamee Raamo matsakhaa Ramachandra-ha |

सर्वस्वं मे रामचन्द्रो दयालु। Sarvaswam me RamachandrO dayaalu |

नान्यं जाने नैव जाने न जाने॥३०॥ Naanyam jaane naiva jaane na jaane ||30||

दक्षिणे लक्ष्मणो यस्य वामे तु जनकात्मजा। DakshiNe LakshmaNO yasya vaame tu Janakaatmajaa |

पुरतो मारुतिर्यस्य तं वन्दे रघुनंदनम्‌॥३१॥ Puratho Maarutiryasya tam vande Raghunandanam ||31||

श्रीराम मेरे माता, मेरे पिता, मेरे स्वामी और मेरे सखा हैं. इस प्रकार दयालु श्रीराम मेरे सर्वस्व हैं. उनके सिवा में किसी दुसरे को नहीं जानता. जिनके दाईं और लक्ष्मण जी, बाईं और जानकी जी और सामने हनुमान ही विराजमान हैं, मैं उन्ही रघुनाथ जी की वंदना करता हूँ.

My mother is Rama, my father Ramachandra,

My lord is Rama and my friend is Ramachandra,

Everything for me is the merciful Ramachandra,

And I do not see any one else except him and him.

I salute that son of Raghu, on whose right is Lakshmana,

On whose left is Sita and n whose front is Hanuman.

लोकाभिरामं रनरङ्‌गधीरं राजीवनेत्रं रघुवंशनाथम्‌। Lokabhiraamam ranarangadheeram raajeevanetram Raghuvamshanaatham |

कारुण्यरूपं करुणाकरंतं श्रीरामचंद्रं शरणं प्रपद्ये॥३२॥KaaruNyaroopam karuNaakaramtam Shreeraamachandram sharaNam prapadhye ||32||

मैं सम्पूर्ण लोकों में सुन्दर तथा रणक्रीड़ा में धीर, कमलनेत्र, रघुवंश नायक, करुणा की मूर्ति और करुणा के भण्डार की श्रीराम की शरण में हूँ.

I surrender to Lord Sri Rama, who is prettiest in this world,

Who is very brave in battle field, who has lotus like eyes,

Who is the chief of the Raghu clan, who is mercy personified,

And who is extremely merciful

मनोजवं मारुततुल्यवेगं जितेन्द्रियं बुद्धिमतां वरिष्ठम्‌। Manojavam Maarutatulyavegam jitendriyam varishTam |

वातात्मजं वानरयूथमुख्यं श्रीरामदूतं शरणं प्रपद्ये॥३३॥ Vaataatmajam vaanarayuuthamukhyam Shreeraamadootam sharaNam prapadhye ||33||

जिनकी गति मन के समान और वेग वायु के समान (अत्यंत तेज) है, जो परम जितेन्द्रिय एवं बुद्धिमानों में श्रेष्ठ हैं, मैं उन पवन-नंदन वानारग्रगण्य श्रीराम दूत की शरण लेता हूँ.

I bow my head and salute the emissary of Rama,

Who has won over his mind,

Who has similar speed as wind,

Who has mastery over his organs,

Who is the greatest among knowledgeable,

Who is the son of God of wind,

And who is the chief in the army of monkeys.

कूजन्तं रामरामेति मधुरं मधुराक्षरम्‌। Koojantham Raamaraameti madhuram madhuraaksharam |

आरुह्य कविताशाखां वन्दे वाल्मीकिकोकिलम्‌॥३४॥ Aaruhya kavithashaakhaam vande Valmiikikokilam ||34|| 

मैं कवितामयी डाली पर बैठकर, मधुर अक्षरों वाले ‘राम-राम’ के मधुर नाम को कूकते हुए वाल्मीकि रुपी कोयल की वंदना करता हूँ.

Salutations to The nightingale Valmiki,

Who sits on the poem like branch,

And who goes on singing sweetly,

“Rama”, “Rama” and “Rama”.

आपदामपहर्तारं दातारं सर्वसंपदाम्‌। Aapadaampahartaaram daataaram sarvasampadaam |

लोकाभिरामं श्रीरामं भूयो भूयो नमाम्यहम्‌॥३५॥ Lokaabhiraamam Shreeraamam bhuyo bhuyo namaamyaham ||35|| 

मैं इस संसार के प्रिय एवं सुन्दर उन भगवान् राम को बार-बार नमन करता हूँ, जो सभी आपदाओं को दूर करने वाले तथा सुख-सम्पति प्रदान करने वाले हैं.

I again and again salute that Rama who is ever beautiful,

Who destroys all dangers and gives all sorts of wealth.

भर्जनं भवबीजानामर्जनं सुखसंपदाम्‌। Bharjanam bhavabeejaanaam-marjanam sukhasampadaam |

तर्जनं यमदूतानां रामरामेति गर्जनम्‌॥३६॥ Tarjanam yamadootaanaam Raamaraamethi garjanam ||36||

‘राम-राम’ का जप करने से मनुष्य के सभी कष्ट समाप्त हो जाते हैं. वह समस्त सुख-सम्पति तथा ऐश्वर्य प्राप्त कर लेता हैं. राम-राम की गर्जना से यमदूत सदा भयभीत रहते हैं.

The roar of the name “Rama”, “Rama,

Burns away all miseries of the world,

Increases al sorts of pleasure and wealth,

And drives away the messengers of God of death, Yama.

रामो राजमणि: सदा विजयते रामं रमेशं भजे। Raamo RaajamaNi-h sada vijayate Raamam ramesham bhaje |

रामेणाभिहता निशाचरचमू रामाय तस्मै नम:। RaameNaabhihathaa nishaacarachamuu Raamaya tasmai namaha |

रामान्नास्ति परायणं परतरं रामस्य दासोSस्म्यहम्‌। Raamannaasti parayaaNam parataram Raamasya daasO-smayaham |

रामे चित्तलय: सदा भवतु मे भो राम मामुद्धर॥३७॥ Raame chiththalaya-h sada bhavatu me bho Raam maamudhdhara ||37||

राजाओं में श्रेष्ठ श्रीराम सदा विजय को प्राप्त करते हैं. मैं लक्ष्मीपति भगवान् श्रीराम का भजन करता हूँ. सम्पूर्ण राक्षस सेना का नाश करने वाले श्रीराम को मैं नमस्कार करता हूँ. श्रीराम के समान अन्य कोई आश्रयदाता नहीं. मैं उन शरणागत वत्सल का दास हूँ. मैं हमेशा श्रीराम मैं ही लीन रहूँ. हे श्रीराम! आप मेरा (इस संसार सागर से) उद्धार करें.

Always victory to Rama who is the king of gems,

I salute Rama who is the consort of Lakshmi,

The Rakshasas who move at night were killed by Rama,

And my salutations to that Rama,

There is no place of surrender greater than Rama,

And I am the slave of Rama,

My mind is always fully engrossed in Rama,

And Oh God Rama please save me.

राम रामेति रामेति रमे रामे मनोरमे। Raama Raamethi Raamethi rame Raame manorame |

सहस्रनाम तत्तुल्यं रामनाम वरानने॥३८॥ Sahastranaama taththulyam Ramanaam varaanane ||38||

(शिव पार्वती से बोले –) हे सुमुखी! राम- नाम ‘विष्णु सहस्त्रनाम’ के समान हैं. मैं सदा राम का स्तवन करता हूँ और राम-नाम में ही रमण करता हूँ.

(Shiva says to Parvati) Dear lady with a beautiful face,

I stay with Rama always, By chanting Rama Rama and Rama,

a single Chant of the name Rama, is same as the chantof whole Vishnu Sahastranaama

इति श्रीबुधकौशिकविरचितं श्रीरामरक्षास्तोत्रं संपूर्णम्‌॥ 
Ithi ShreeBudhakaushikavirachitham ShreeRamarakshastotram sampoorNam ||
